OKLAHOMA CITY, Jan. 14, 2017 – The Oklahoma City Blue (16-9) won its seventh straight home game, 104-97, versus the Austin Spurs (9-15) on Saturday night.
The score was tied 89-89 with 7:10 left in the game, but Oklahoma City went on a 6-0 run, behind three-pointers from Kameron Woods and Semaj Christon, to take the lead for good. Christon, on assignment from the Thunder, led the team with nine points in the quarter and finished with a team-leading 24 points.
“He hasn’t played the last few games for the Thunder so I was just happy for him to be able to get out there,” Head Coach Mark Daigneault said. “He did a great job of running the team despite the fact that he hasn’t played with us this season.”
The game was close throughout, featuring 16 ties and 11 lead changes. The Blue held a slight edge in the first half and went into halftime leading 56-54. Thunder assignment player Josh Huestis scored 12 points in the first half, finishing with 18 points and four rebounds.
Oklahoma City led by six with nine minutes left in the third quarter, but the Spurs outscored the Blue by eight to close out the quarter and took a 77-75 lead into the fourth.
Huestis and Christon were just two of the five Blue players that finished in double figures. Dakari Johnson turned in his team-leading seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
“It was fun, just being back out there and being able to play and compete,” Christon said.
Oklahoma City heads to the NBA D-League Showcase on Wednesday night to face the Northern Arizona Suns at 5 p.m. CST in the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
