Blue Withstands Vipers for Win

HIDALGO, Texas, April 13, 2017 – The Oklahoma City Blue (1-0) defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (0-1), 112-108, on Thursday night.

The game was tied at 80-all going into the fourth quarter. After three lead changes, Oklahoma City trailed by one with 4:09 left in the game after a runner from Kyle Wiltjer, but Dakari Johnson responded with a layup to put the Blue back up for good.

Johnson led the team with 27 points and eight rebounds, his fourth consecutive game scoring above 20 points.

“I thought in the fourth quarter we really got our defense in the game,” Head Coach Mark Daigneault said. “We stabilized after a rough third quarter…there’s a lot we can learn from tonight for Game 2.”

The Blue trailed by nine points in the first quarter, but behind 12 points from Reggie Williams, went into the second quarter leading 35-29.

Williams was one of five in double figures for Oklahoma City, finishing with 21 points, four rebounds and four assists. Josh Huestis, on assignment from the Thunder, turned in 11 points and three rebounds, while Alex Caruso led the team with eight assists.

The series switches to Oklahoma City for Game 2 on Sunday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
