Bench Powers Blue to Win Over Vipers

OKLAHOMA CITY, Dec. 30, 2016 – The Oklahoma City Blue (12-7) won its fourth straight game, 130-124, over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (13-8) on Friday night.

The game was tied at 109-all with 6:33 left in the game, but Oklahoma City outscored Rio Grande Valley by seven over the next five minutes to put the game away. Josh Huestis scored eight points over the stretch.

“I was really proud of our player’s resilience and toughness,” Head Coach Mark Daigneault said. “I thought our defense and tenacity in the fourth quarter was the difference in the game.”

On assignment from the Thunder, Huestis finished with a season-high 23 points, adding nine rebounds and two assists.

The highest scoring game of the season for OKC featured 17 lead changes and eight ties.

The Blue went on a 17-9 run in the second quarter, giving it a 65-64 lead at halftime. But the Vipers powered through in the third quarter, and led 97-92 to start the final frame.

Oklahoma City’s bench outscored the Vipers’, 46-23, led by 15 points from Jannero Pargo. Myke Henry added a career-high 13 points and four rebounds.

“I mean that’s just the consistent work that we [the bench] put in,” Henry said. “Coach has trust in us and we are going to go out there and perform.”

Oklahoma City goes on the road to face the Salt Lake City Stars on January 3 at 8 p.m. at the Lifetime Activities Center – Bruin Arena.
